I haven't always been a teacher. I actually started my career as a Respiratory Care Practitioner! I was a graduate at St. Lukes's School of Respiratory Therapy in Fargo, ND and worked as a Respiratory Care Practitioner at St. Joseph's Hospital in Dickinson, ND for 6 years. I fell in love with teaching when I began instructing asthmatic patients on their condition and how to administer "treatments" properly to themselves when needed.
I received my degree in elementary education from Dickinson State University in 1994. I began teaching 5th grade at Lincoln Elementary in Dickinson, ND. After five years of teaching 5th grade, I began teaching 6th grade for the remaining ten years while I lived in Dickinson. During my teaching career in Dickinson, I was very honored and privileged to have been selected as the Milken Family Foundation, ND Teacher of the Year in 2002. I won a trip to Los Angeles for the presentation of the award during a national teaching conference. It was certainly a major highlight in my life.
In 2010, I started teaching in Bismarck Public Schools as a G/T LoS teacher. I completed my coursework for the gifted/talented credential through Minot State University where I am also finishing my Master's of Education degree.I hope to complete the requirements for the graduate degree in December of 2014. This is my fifth year as a G/T LoS teacher and my 20th year as an educator.
I am married to my terrific husband, Terry, and I have two wonderful children. This spring, my husband and I adopted our puppy, Greta from an animal shelter and have welcomed her into our home. Recently, we adopted another dog that needed a home. Her name is Daisy. Greta is a lab/black mouthed cur mix and Daisy is a German Short Hair Pointer. They have certainly added a lot of joy and laughter to our household.
Some of my hobbies include: reading, digital scrap booking, learning new computer programs, playing card and dice games, drawing, cooking, biking, camping, and trying to learn Spanish.
Teaching has been a passion of mine for a very long time and I still strive continuously to be the best teacher that I can be. The success of my students is very important to me. I am not successful, I feel, if my students are not successful. I will work to provide challenging instruction on the skills my students need.
